Overwhelmed

Do you ever feel so completely overwhelmed that you hardly know what to do?

Warning... this blog post is not very encouraging or uplifting. It is however filled with real thoughts, feelings and happenings in the life of a mother of 5...

If you're still reading... don't say I didn't warn ya!! ;)

I'm not one to often share negativity on my blog or online. I want to express positive things... to brighten peoples day. To be an encouragement. However... today it's my turn to share the realities. This winter has been the pits! There has been someone sick here since November. Yes, that is 4 months. We've gone thru everything including colds, flu, throwing up, bladder infections, infected teeth, ear infections, strep throat, pin worms (ew), chest infections, and I'm sure there is more that I'm just not thinking of. There is almost always someone on antibiotics, which i dearly dislike. I have hardly been outside of the house in the last month and a half. I'm sure I could count the times on one hand. I'm going completely stir-crazy!
We had to cancel so many things... my family coming to visit over Christmas, DS's birthday party outing, several dates, church, play group and just general getting out. Hubby has been getting groceries... what a guy! But there are things that you just don't think to put on a list... things you just get... like Kraft dinner... I NEED TO HAVE KD in the house when I feel like crap! :)
I try to keep positive. Be thankful that my kids are generally healthy and that none of these issues are serious. No one has been hospitalized. No one has been hurt. We are all together. But it is so hard. I am so overwhelmed.
And now I'm sick too. My chest hurts so bad... I have a hard time breathing. AND I have 3 kids sick and 2 I'm trying to keep healthy. My head feels like it's going to blow off, and i have so much laundry to do it's just not funny! I have been trying to see that everyone is eating and drinking enough... that no one gets double dosed on Advil or Triaminic... I have to write down when they take what and their temperature, or I'll get it all balled up! My brain has just stopped functioning!
I have scrappy assignments that I'm trying to get done... I know life comes first, but I also take my commitments seriously as well, and like to keep up when I can. My internet was down for the weekend due to the 40 cm of snow we got. Oh, did I mention It's now storming again, with another 15-20 cm due by morning.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! ENOUGH WINTER!!!

Alright... I'm done... None of this is written for your sympathy. I just have to get it out. I have to vent! Hopefully now with my thoughts written out, the bugs and germs will go away!! :)
Here's hoping spring is just around the corner!!! :)

  1. ((((((Tina))))))) A germ free hug for ya :) I can so relate...I am also a SAHM of five kiddos....all boys. Also dealing with everyone being sick, trying to keep the house clean for more than 15 minutes at a time....and generally just trying to keep everyone from killing one another. My problem is I am the only girl in this house....and at times like these, my only adult and non male interaction comes from online....so sad.....lol. But life happens. We pull up our big girl panties and deal as best we can. I think once you get a day to yourself yhou will feel like a new woman!!! Me, I just want someone to actually hit the toilet....not the wall....not the floor in front of the toilet.....IN THE BOWL!!! Is that so much to ask???

  2. Well I cannot relate to having 5 children, I do have 2 teenage boys which putting it nicely keep me going but I can relate to wanting to pull my hair out and scream. As woman though we seem to keep on going even when we hit rock bottom so two thumbs up to you for keeping your family in check. You will deserve a much needed break when you get healthy again. We can always send a hint off to your husband if you would like!!! HUGS ans stay positive!

  3. We haven't been down nearly as long as you, but we just can't seem to get "over" anything...we went from colds to flu, UTI's to Fifth's disease...which is making my joints hurt so bad that I am having issues crafting :( I am ready to sunshine and warmth...just enough to open a window to get the lysol smell out would be grand! Laundry will wait, get some rest if you can :)

  4. Oh I'm so sorry to hear about this :( I know it is rough (to say the least!) and very hard to think about yourself. But,I am never sick and was sick once, my chest hurt and I could not breath I finally went to a doctor, I NEVER go, and found out I had pneumonia. I hope you are ok and if you really need to, please see a doctor. Hope all is better soon, and hope spring comes quickly and with lots of healthiness!

  6. I always tell myself (and friends) that when life feels that low and every part of you is being pushed to the limit you will be rewarded. At some point, and I hope very soon, germs will clear, sun will shine, smiles will beam and this will just be a tiny bad memory :-)

  7. Ohhh Tina! I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling well and that life has got you down. I know exactly how you feel. I work full time and for 7 years I was a single mom of 2, so I pretty much felt this way ALL THE TIME. It's true that family comes first... but you need to take a moment for yourself or you will explode! I learned this the hard way. If possible, try to have someone watch the kids for a while when they are feeling better so that you can have some 'YOU' time. Take care of yourself and I hope everyone feels better soon. HUGS!

  8. Hi Tina,
I'm so sorry to hear that now your body is giving in to the sickness. It's so hard to look after everyone else when you feel like curling up in a ball under the blankets and sleeping for more than three hours at a time! Hugs to you, my friend, and more importantly I'll be praying for you all!

  12. So sorry Tina that things have been so rotten for you. Your perspective is right, but it is hard to be positive when everyone around you feels so sick. Praying for you sweetie. Praying that God will give you the strength to get through each new day and that whatever you find yourself doing that you will be blessed beyond measure. Keep Looking Up! Spring is on it's way! Hugs.

  13. Hi Tina!

I came across your blog today through the Helmar website. I'm sorry to hear that your family is not feeling well. :(

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow Canadian (I'm from New Brunswick too -Miramichi). Keep up the beautiful work. Your layouts are amazing!

  14. Vent away !! Been there, done that, but with only 2 boys...but they seemed like 5 at times. Life is just like that sometimes, and we all make it thru. I'm 50 now, and motherhood hasn't killed me yet. Most of the time I was in the US Air Force, then retired and was a single SAHM, then went back to college full time, then before I knew it, they were grown and on their own. The youngest (23 in Apr) has no concept of time, and often calls me in the middle of the night or very early in the morning. They're our babies forever, you know ? Best wishes, and sending good thoughts your way, hoping life calms for awhile.

  17. This has been such a tough year for colds and flu. I had to do a happy dance when one day I realized we were all well at the same time, lol. That was short lived, but it was worth remembering. Hope your brood is well soon and remember to take care of you as well. Without you, they would have no one, so take care.
